Meals and snacks

what should I put in my child's lunchbox?

At Kew Pacific Island Early Learning Centre we encourage healthy eating and living. Every Wednesday is our Junk Food Free day. Here are some ideas for what you can put in a healthy lunchbox.

  • Fruits like: Kiwifruit, mandarin, raisins, strawberries, pineapple, banana, orange, apple, pear, grapes, apricot, avocado, tomato.

  • Vegetables like: carrot, potato, cauliflower, broccoli, peas, taro, corn, lettuce, celery, kumara, swede.

  • Sandwich filling ideas: Brown bread/pita, cheese, jam/honey, egg, cheese and carrot, baked beans, cucumber, cream cheese and salmon.

Please don't pack Chocolate, lollies, jelly cups noodles or juice. Keep these items for special occasions at home.

Do you provide any food?

The Centre provides morning and afternoon tea. There is a choice of fresh fruit, depending on the season, and occasionally other healthy options. Drinks including water, milk and milo are provided.  Children bring their own lunches.

It's my child's birthday, can they have cake?

Talk with the staff about options. We are conscious of healthy food choices but a treat at the end of the day is acceptable.
